About Us

Mission

Crossport is a not-for-profit* social support organization serving transgender individuals in the Greater Cincinnati and surrounding area, including partners, families, friends, and other allies.

Guided by the values of acceptance and compassion, we strive for mutual understanding and equal treatment.

We also serve as an educational resource for the transgender community and an outreach to the general public.

We are open to all transgender individuals and we also feel strongly about addressing the needs of the spouses, family members, and others who are close to the transgender community. Our goal is to support and empower one another and, as best we can, address the unique needs and challenges faced by transgender individuals. We do this by providing a safe meeting place for you to meet and talk with others like yourself who will accept you for who you are. We also provide information and education for our members, including an extensive library and a high quality monthly newsletter.

Additionally, our outreach programs aim to better educate the public, health organizations, and professionals who work with the transgender community, such as therapists and doctors. We also coordinate with other local organizations whose goals are to enlighten the public and to provide political and legal equality for all members of our society.

Please note Crossport is neither a dating service nor a fetish club

* Although Crossport is a not-for-profit organization, we are not a 501(c)(3) tax exempt.organization. If you wish to make a contribution to Crossport contact your tax advisor,

Membership

How Do I Become a Member?

Crossport has a very flexible and open definition of membership. According to our bylaw 1.1 “Anyone who attends a meeting is a member” of Crossport. No other commitment, financial or otherwise, is required to be a member—if you come to one meeting, you are considered a member, just as simple as that. You may attend any support or social meeting without obligation.

The only restriction for coming to meetings is that you must be of legal voting age (18 years of age and older). Anyone younger than 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Voting Membership

Most of our active members become “Voting members.” The benefits of voting membership include: 1) a subscription to Crossport’s full monthly newsletter, The InnerView; 2) borrowing privileges to Crossport’s extensive library of books, periodicals, and DVDs on wide range of gender topics; 3) and the ability to both vote in and run for office in annual Crossport Board elections (or any other matter upon which the group votes, such as changes to the bylaws).

The commitment to become a voting member is $30 per year, which helps Crossport underwrite the costs for the library, the phone service, this website, Crossport pamphlet and business cards, various community outreach projects (such a Pride event booths), expenses for the June picnic, and various other initiatives that benefit our members and the local TG community. You can become a voting member by sending a check or money order for $30 payable to Crossport, P.O. Box 19936, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219, or by bringing your donation to any Crossport meeting or pay by PayPal (below).

To support Crossport’s mission, a number of members have chosen to give to the organization at higher levels which are:

Although no extra privileges come with the higher levels of giving to the organization, the generosity and support of members giving at the higher levels is very much appreciated, as it greatly aids Crossport’s mission in serving our transgender community.

PayPal is available for the convenience of those who would like to pay dues via credit/debit card or via PayPay. You may still pay at any Crossport social or support event by handing a check or cash to a Crossport Board Member or by mailing to our P.O. Box..

Newsletters

The InnerView

Our monthly newsletter is the InnerView. Crossport has many talented writers and a very talented editor, and for many years has maintained a high-quality monthly newsletter. The InnerView consists largely of member-written contributions on various aspects of transgender life, updates on group social activities, Board meeting minutes, as well items of interest for the transgender community both locally and nationally. A one-year subscription is included for all financially contributing or “voting” Crossport members.

For a subscription to The InnerView, which includes Crossport library lending and voting on Crossport issues pay via check, money order, cash or PayPal. Most of our members receive their newsletter via e-mail, which allows you to receive the newsletter instantly, in color, and it saves the organization postage costs. The InnerView can also be mailed to you via US mail, which is done in a plain white envelope bearing no reference to Crossport, with only our P.O. Box as a return address for your privacy.

Community Outreach

Crossport maintains a support phone line and hosts an outreach booth annually at the Cincinnati Pride Festival.

Academic researchers can have access to the Crossport library by e-mail request to our contact address.

Interested groups or classes may request a Crossport volunteer to speak on transgender issues. Contact us via e-mail or phone.

Crossport History

Crossport was formed in the summer of 1985. Since that time, hundreds of individuals have become involved in our group. Members have come not only from the Cincinnati area but Dayton, Indianapolis, Louisville, Lexington, Columbus, Charleston and all points between. Several of these cities now have their own groups. We are an autonomous non-profit organization, though we are affiliated with the International Foundation for Gender Education (LFGE) near Boston. We also try to work with the other regional support groups. Crossport is administered by a Board of seven members elected in November and serving from January to December.
